NECA Convention & Show

The Monterey Bay California Chapter, National Electrical Contractors Association, is dedicated to the promotion of the electrical construction and maintenance industry in Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties of central California. Its membership consists of all sizes of electrical contractors that perform work in many markets including; commercial, industrial, residential, telecommunications, low voltage, fiber optics and instrumentation.

The Chapter is also proud to have an Associate Member category where businesses that serve electrical contractors and the industry, can participate in Chapter activities and make a valuable contribution. NECA members actively participate in shaping the marketplace to enhance the quality of work performed, improve customer satisfaction and promote job safety. NECA also believes in the merits of fair competition, and to that end, it advocates a level playing field for all competitors.

The following are some of the many areas that NECA members strive to make a positive impact:

  • California Electrician Certification
  • Federal Prevailing Wage
  • California State Prevailing Wage
  • Local School Districts
  • Local City Councils
  • And many more industry related agencies, committees and groups

The Chapter also works closely with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union #234. Chapter members sit on many joint IBEW/NECA committees such as: Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations, the area health and welfare fund and the joint apprenticeship and training committee (JATC). The IBEW and NECA work in cooperation to provide the best possible product for the consumers in the electrical industry.

Overview: History the National Association and the Chapter

The National Electrical Contractors Association was founded in 1901, and the Monterey Bay California Chapter was chartered in 1973. NECA represents, promotes and advances the interests of the electrical contracting industry, of all its branches, and the public it serves.

Listed below are just a few of the reasons why electrical contractors felt the need to form NECA:

  • To provide opportunities to meet for mutual education and to uncover potentials for increasing business.
  • To speak for the electrical contracting industry and represent its interests before legislative assemblies, governmental agencies, and other bodies.
  • To promote harmonious labor management relations and provide for the orderly settlement of labor disputes.
  • To cooperate in training efforts, worker safety, development of the National Electric Code and informing the public about the importance of safe wiring.
  • To promote sound business management practices and economic conditions throughout the industry.
